She is a stay-at-home mother, and in the last 18 months, she began her own art business. She hangs out with her kids during the day and creates art at night.

IN THIS EPISODE, BRITT TALKS WITH EMILY LAWSON ABOUT:

  • How to navigate neurodiverse parenting
  • How to balance grief for what happens when parenting looks different than imagined as well as the joy that your children are here
  • Coming to terms with the fact that the parenting journey may look vastly different than initially imagined
  • Understanding neurodiverse parenting
  • How to be humble humans, especially to our children
  • How to view life through a lens of hope

“I felt a lot of guilt and a lot of shame for even admitting that this is so hard. And this is not at all what I expected it to be. There was a lot of guilt and shame surrounding that.” -Emily Lawson

“If it feels hard that’s because it is hard. Our stories have legitimate hard parts.” -Emily Lawson

“It doesn’t make you a bad person or a bad mom to acknowledge that your circumstances are difficult – or to acknowledge that you expect them to go differently. That you thought that your parenting journey was going to be different than the one that you’re on.” -Britt Smith

“In order for me to deal with my struggle with perfectionism, I used art as a way to sit in the mess.” -Emily Lawson
